The edges, when cut from a larger bold of flax linen have two frayed edges where the cut was made. Since the couches are not typically washed, the fraying that might occur would be minimal, but if you're worried about it, then buy the ones that have been put through a special sewing machine to overlock the edges to prevent fraying
